My Musings on Old Age 41.

in one way growing older is very useful. I find that as an author I have a lot more experiences – read about, heard from friends, happened to me – to draw on for my writing and books. Nice to know there are SOME compensations.

  1. Me too, Lyn. I recently lent one of my own anthologies to a rest home resident and she asked where I got the ideas from. I was surprised that as I leafed through I could say of MOST of the stories, “My mother did this”, “This follows on from a person telling me about their resident ghost”, or some other lead from real life.

I can see I haven’t changed that much in my leanings. Back in the 80s I was in defiance of Christian preacher Fred Nile. Nowadays I am in defiance of Muslim nutters for the same reasons. My life might have worked out better without any religion being around at all but you never know. I have lived alone for a long time. Maybe without religion society would have still found ways to scuttle me when it comes to finding that woman. There is that possibility. You just never know. And you don’t know how much of it is you scuttling yourself to please your society.
